We have connected the Sitola laboratory to the CESNET3 network at a speed of 100Gbps

Clock ikon 24. November 2023

We have connected the Sitola lab to 100 GE. This is an important step in the upgrade of the CESNET backbone network. While in the past 100Gbps speeds were only available in the backbone network, today it is also possible to connect individual institutes, laboratories, scientific facilities, or even instruments at these speeds in the CESNET3 network.

The Sitola laboratory is a joint laboratory of the CESNET association, the Faculty of Informatics, and the Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University. Research in the laboratory focuses on advanced technologies for high-performance computing, big data processing, high-speed networks, low-cost video and audio transmissions, and scheduling with scheduling. The lab is developing the UltraGrid software for low latency, high-quality video transmissions over IP networks using which we have previously demonstrated transmissions of uncompressed 8K video. Such transmissions require bandwidth greater than 33Gbps. In the lab, modern, programmable network hardware is available, for researchers and students, to enable the development of new network applications.
