A major milestone in the CESNET network infrastructure
The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences became the first institution whose connection to the CESNET backbone network (e-INFRA CZ) was upgraded to 400 Gb/s!
The Institute of Physics of the CAS is one of the key players in processing data from experiments at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). At the same time, it is a very important user of the large network infrastructure e-INFRA CZ formed by CESNET, CERIT-SC from Brno and IT4 Innovations from Ostrava.
The original connection of the Institute of Physics of the CAS with a capacity of 200 Gb/s prior to the upgrade no longer met the demanding data transmission requirements due to its 70% load. During the WLCG Data Challenge 24, a stress test of the world's scientific IT infrastructure, an astonishing 2.1 PB of data from the Institute of Physics and 2.5 PB of data in the opposite direction flowed through the network in four and a half days!
With this enhanced capacity and the forthcoming increase in connectivity to the pan-European GÉANT network, of which CESNET is a member, the Institute of Physics will be even better placed to contribute to the global scientific effort related to the CERN experiments.
We are delighted to be pushing the boundaries of network infrastructure and helping to support cutting-edge scientific research.
