Prague, April 19th, 2021. The CESNET e-Infrastructure Conference begins tomorrow morning, a traditional meeting of experts in the field of network technologies, high-performance computing and data storage. At the conference, the CESNET Association presents its current services as well as news from its own research and development. This year’s event takes place in accordance with anti-epidemic measures on-line and will last three days.

“The CESNET e-Infrastructure Conference is an established platform for exchanging experience and opinions on current trends in our industry. We are pleased that important experts from the field of pan-European e-infrastructures, such as Dr. Erik Huizer, Executive Director of the Pan-European Association of National Research and Education Networks GÉANT, and Professor Karel Luyben, President of the EOSC Association, the European Cloud for Open Science, will enrich it with their contributions again this year, said Jan Gruntorád, director of the CESNET association.

The event is primarily intended for experts from the ranks of users of the association, i.e. from universities, scientific or research institutions, but it is also open to all others interested in IT technology.

During Tuesday morning’s block, conference participants will first learn about the history of the CESNET association, its current tasks and plans for the coming years. They will also hear contributions from foreign guests. The afternoon, which is devoted to the Network and Network Services section, will then learn about the started upgrade of the CESNET network.

On Wednesday morning, speakers will focus on services and activities in the areas of high-performance computing and data storage. They will present the prospects of the CESNET association in the field of computer and data infrastructure, and the plans of the association’s partners, including the national supercomputer centre IT4Innovations. In the afternoon, there will be talk about currently very intense needs: tools for remote work and teaching, audio‑visual transmissions or distance learning, support for cooperation and multimedia.

The final day is dedicated to digital identities and cyber security.

The complete conference program can be found at https://www.cesnet.cz/akce/konferencecesnet/. At the same place, you can still register for the event free of charge and watch the conference stream.

The CESNET Association was founded in 1996 by universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences. It focuses on research and development in the field of information and communication technologies, builds and develops the national e-infrastructure CESNET for research and education. Thanks to its research activities and achieved results, it represents the Czech Republic in important international projects, especially in building the pan-European GÉANT network, grid projects (EGI.eu) or the European Open Science Cloud initiative (EOSC) and actively participates in their implementation. The research activities of the association are focused on improving the parameters of e-infrastructure, ensuring cyber security, demanding network applications, multimedia transmission or the use of information and communication technologies in the field of humanities.
