NTK and CESNET confirmed their long-standing cooperation by signing a memorandum
Prague, May 17, 2022. On Tuesday, May 17, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the National Library of Technology (NTK), which will deepen the long-standing cooperation between the National Library of Technology and the CESNET association. The central topics of the MoU are mainly the issues of the scope of cooperation, staff capacities, sharing of know-how and cooperation on research and educational projects or activities.
The memorandum was signed by Martin Svoboda, director of the National Library of Technology, and Jakub Papírník, director of CESNET. Among other things, the two entities agreed on the interconnection of tools and the sharing of know-how in order to increase the added value of their services, cooperation on joint research and educational projects or activities and the use of the potential of both institutions in terms of staff capacity.
The memorandum also includes the establishment of a joint coordination group to identify and coordinate common topics and legal cover for them. The CESNET Association will enable NTK to use the CESNET e-infrastructure, which is part of the e-INFRA CZ consortium, and other related services for the implementation of joint projects or activities. In return, NTK will provide CESNET with its know-how and methodological support for professional activities in the field of storages and repositories.
“The signed memorandum will allow us to deepen our long-standing cooperation. We will continue to modernize and expand the range of our services for the academic community. We are working with teams from NTK on a national repository service for storing and publishing research data in full compliance with the principles of open science,” said CESNET Director Jakub Papírník.
“Strengthening cooperation in the field of research and educational activities, as well as sharing know-how, is a fundamental parameter of development we want to pursue with CESNET in the future. The Memorandum of Cooperation is thus a great example of how the interdisciplinary cooperation that has been going on between the two institutions for a long time can be made even more effective and deepened. Thanks to the active support of the working teams from both institutions, we will now be able to develop our scientific projects on an even broader scale,” added Martin Svoboda, director of the NTK, on the signing of the memorandum.
CESNET was founded in 1996 by universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is engaged in research and development of information and communication technologies, building and developing a national CESNET e-infrastructure for research and education. Thanks to its research activities and achievements, it represents the Czech Republic in important international projects, especially in building the pan-European network GÉANT or grid projects (EGI.eu), and participates actively in their implementation. The association is also working on the use of high-speed networks for sharing multimedia data, both synchronously in the form of video conferencing and shared applications, and asynchronously in the form of streaming. Since December 2020, CESNET represents the Czech Republic in the international association dealing with the open science paradigm – EOSC AISBL.Více na: www.cesnet.cz
