Prague, 5 May 2023. Experts from CESNET, in collaboration with the Karel Čapek Memorial, have created digital models of objects related to the work and life of the famous writer. These can be seen at the exhibition titled “The Golden Boy, Sensitive General: Dr. Leopold Firt,” which opened in Strž near Dobříš in early April and will run until 20th September this year.

“After bringing Čapek’s robot figure to life last year, this year we have transformed previously unseen and unpublished family memorabilia and objects associated with Čapek’s friend and personal physician, Dr. Leopold Firt, into 3D. This includes, for example, a model of an officer’s cap sewn during the war in England, which was worn by Dr. Firt, or a model of the original blood pressure meter used to monitor Karel Čapek’s blood pressure,” says Ing. Jiří Kubišta from the Network Applications Technology Department at CESNET.

General Medical Officer Dr. Leopold Firt was Čapek’s friend, personal physician, and during World War II, the chief doctor of the Czechoslovak units in the Middle East. The Memorial will present this kind and experienced doctor with a fighter’s heart through unique personal items, photographs, and documents. Most of these items come from the Firt family archives and will be presented to the public for the first time. The preparation of the traveling exhibition, subtitled “The Fate of the Doctor and Friend of Karel Čapek and His Comrades from Tobruk,” also involved the Military Historical Institute in Prague.

The 3D models of family memorabilia created by CESNET are available to visitors through QR codes on museum display panels. The models are accessible through the virtual environment of the CESNET infrastructure.
